Following conference title weekend, the first transfer portal window opened, resulting in hundreds of players entering their names in the pool.
Despite Texas’ success this season, the Longhorns suffered an unfortunate blow to their roster.
On Wednesday, defensive lineman Sydir Mitchell announced his intention to enter the transfer portal.
Mitchell played two seasons with the Longhorns, logging seven combined tackles in 2023 and 2024.
The New Jersey native originally committed to Texas as a four-star prospect in the Class of 2022. Mitchell was ranked as the No. 25 defensive lineman and No. 205 overall player in the nation, per the 247Sports Composite.
While Mitchell looks to find a new home in the college football landscape, Texas will prepare for a first-round matchup against the No. 12 Clemson Tigers in the College Football Playoff.
The Longhorns are set to host the Tigers on Dec. 21 at 4 p.m. ET. They enter the first-round matchup as 11-point favorites, per ESPN BET.
