The Texas Tech Red Raiders didn’t have the storybook end to the 2024 season they’d hoped for. Still, an 8-4 regular season that included six Big 12 wins isn’t anything to sneeze at, regardless of the disappointing Liberty Bowl loss to Arkansas.
Looking back, it’s easy to see where the Red Raiders succeeded and failed on the field. Some changes have already been made ahead of the offseason including new coordinators and new staff members.
Now that the Ohio State Buckeyeshave hoisted the National Championship trophy, the collegiate football season is officially over, and it’s time to judge regular-season stats and where Tech finished.
Maybe the best unit for the Red Raiders this season was its offense. In Joey McGuire’s third season, Tech finished with one of the nation’s top scoring offenses at 37.6 points per game. That’s good enough for ninth in program history and the highest total for the Red Raiders since 2016 when Kliff Kingsbury and Patrick Mahomeswere leading things.
McGuire’s unit was also ninth in the country in both total offense per game at 462.7 yards and passing offense at 296.7. Behren Morton finished the year No. 8 in the nation in individual passing with 277.9 yards per game through the air. He was 16th in the country with 27 passing touchdowns and total passing yards with 3,335.
Behind a fantastic season from Tahj Brooks, the Red Raiders finished No. 3 in the FBS with 136.8 yards rushing per game. Brooks, who declared for the NFL Draft and missed the Liberty Bowl, was eighth with 1,505 yards rushing to become the third Big 12 runner in history to surpass 1,500 yards in multiple seasons and the first Red Raider to do so.
