The Oklahoma Sooners had a terrible year on the offensive side of the ball last season. The defense did their thing, while the offense lacked in so many areas, including passing the ball and the offensive line. They couldn’t move the ball downfield, and the offensive line couldn’t protect the quarterback.
Now, this was because of both the offensive line and the quarterback play. Both positions were bad. And, that has led to some big changes this offseason. The Sooners are trying to rebuild their offensive line for new offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle and his scheme. And then they went and got his quarterback, John Mateer, who will be a huge upgrade from what they had last year.

Sooners land John Mateer

John Mateer, previously at Washington State, transferred to Oklahoma. In 2024, he led the nation with 44 total touchdowns, throwing for 3,139 yards with 29 touchdowns and rushing for 826 yards with 15 scores.

Mateer’s arrival was part of Oklahoma’s strategy to improve their team through the transfer portal, and with two years left to play, he is seen as a key piece for the Sooners’ future quarterback position. He can really take the offense to the next level, and may even have a season that could see him as a draft prospect next season.
But, you guys already know all of this, what you may not know is that Mateer just had a really cool opportunity to do something that not many college quarterbacks get the opportunity to do.

I can’t thank Fowler Dodge enough for this masterpiece!! The opportunity to build a truck has always been a dream of mine. This partnership has blessed both me and my family, being able to share the benefits that come with NIL.

Sure, with the new days of NIL, every D1 college quarterback gets to have a cool car or something of that sort. But, how many get to build their own truck? This is pretty cool.
