The University of Arkansas is set to appoint Remy Cofield, currently the Director of Scouting for the Boston Celtics, as the athletic department’s General Manager. Cofield joined the Celtics organization in 2013 and has served in various capacities, including General Manager of the Maine Red Claws, the team’s G-League affiliate, from 2019 to 2022. He played college basketball at the University of Pennsylvania from 2007 to 2009.

Arkansas football coach Sam Pittman expressed the need for a General Manager with experience in professional sports to oversee recruiting and manage relationships during the transfer portal and recruiting processes. Pittman emphasized the importance of having a negotiator to assess the value of potential prospects in the NIL era.

This move reflects a growing trend in collegiate athletics to incorporate professional sports management strategies to enhance program operations.
