On March 11, 2025, the University of Tennessee held its annual Pro Day at the Anderson Training Center in Knoxville, where 14 former Volunteers showcased their skills in front of representatives from all 32 NFL teams.
Notable Participants:
Dylan Sampson (Running Back): Sampson demonstrated his speed by running a sub-4.5-second 40-yard dash. He also showcased his versatility in route-running and pass-catching abilities, aiming to highlight his adaptability to the evolving dynamics of the NFL.
James Pearce Jr. (Edge Rusher): Building on his impressive 4.47-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, Pearce continued to display his athleticism and pass-rushing prowess during Pro Day drills. His performance has positioned him as a potential first-round draft pick, with teams like the Cincinnati Bengals expressing interest.
Dont’e Thornton Jr. (Wide Receiver): After recording a 4.30-second 40-yard dash at the Combine, Thornton focused on running pro-style routes during Pro Day to demonstrate his readiness for NFL offensive schemes.
Program Success:
Head coach Josh Heupel highlighted the significance of this Pro Day, reflecting on the program’s achievements over the past three years, including 30 wins, an Orange Bowl victory, and a College Football Playoff appearance. He praised the departing players for laying a strong foundation for Tennessee football’s continued success.
The event not only provided these athletes with a platform to impress NFL scouts but also underscored the program’s commitment to developing talent ready for the professional level.
