Columbia, SC – April 23, 2025 – The South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball program has scored a major recruiting win with the commitment of 5-star guard Madina Okot, one of the most sought-after high school prospects in the nation. Okot announced her decision via social media this morning, sending a wave of excitement across Gamecock Nation.
Hailing from Houston, Texas, Okot has dazzled fans and scouts alike with her dynamic playmaking abilities, court vision, and defensive prowess. The 5’10” guard is ranked among the top 10 players in the Class of 2025, according to multiple national recruiting services.

During her junior season at Westbrook High, Okot averaged 21.8 points, 6.3 assists, and 4.9 rebounds per game. She led her team to the state semifinals and was named Texas Gatorade Player of the Year for her performance.
Okot chose South Carolina over several other elite programs, including Stanford, LSU, and UConn. In her announcement, she cited Coach Staley’s mentorship, the team’s strong legacy, and the school’s commitment to academic excellence as key factors in her decision.
