The Notre Dame Fighting Irish had a whirlwind of a season in 2024.

They opened the year with a huge road win over the No. 20 Texas A&MAggies, only to follow it up with a loss against Northern Illinois as 28.5-point favorites, per ESPN BET. Many thought that the team’s Week 2 loss would derail its playoff hopes, but that wasn’t the case.

Notre Dame earned its way into the 12-team College Football Playoff, and made it to the title game after winning 13 straight, where they lost to Ohio State. While it wasn’t the result they wanted to end the year, there is optimism that they can build off of the big year and possibly make another run in 2025.
However, while there has been plenty of hype and belief around the program, there was a mystery regarding who all of their opponents would be. That is at least until earlier this week. As revealed earlier in the week by Stanford and confirmed on Friday by Notre Dame, the two teams will face off in the final week of the regular season.
Although the two teams had played every season since 1997 except for the shortened 2020 season, the two programs had not officially announced plans to play in the future beyond this past season.
