The Temple Owls are anticipated to hire Georgia Bulldogs player personnel analyst Nick Griffith as their director of scouting. This represents a significant promotion for Griffith, who has played a key role for Georgia in recent seasons.
What exactly has Griffith been doing for Georgia? According to Griffith’s LinkedIn, he has helped Georgia evaluate talent in the NCAA transfer portal and also helped tight ends coach Todd Hartley. Georgia has been among the nation’s top schools at recruiting elite tight end talent under Hartley.
In fact, Georgia has had a tight end drafted in six straight years. The 2018 NFL draft was the last time a UGA tight end was not selected.
“I am responsible for oversight on the Transfer Portal process, as well as working with Coach Todd Hartley in identifying, evaluating, and recruiting Tight Ends,” said Griffith on his LinkedIn page. Griffith gained experience serving as a player personnel analyst with the Florida Gators, where he also focused on the transfer portal.
Over 2,000 scholarship players entered the transfer portal along during the winter window in 2024, so evaluating players in the transfer portal is critical. The shear volume of transfer talent is overwhelming, but Georgia is primarily looking for elite talent in the portal and via traditional high school recruiting. Georgia and its ever-growing personnel staff will now look to replace Griffith.
