Defensive star Brianna Turner, who played alongside Angel Reese with the Chicago Sky last season, shared her excitement after joining an Indiana Fever team that boasts a core of Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston.
The Fever officially announced Turner’s signing on Monday, posting a welcome message for her on social media.
“We have signed forward Brianna Turner,” Indiana wrote in its post, along with an edited photo of the 28-year-old in a Fever jersey. “Welcome to the squad, @_breezybriii!
Indiana also shared Turner’s statement about her decision to join the team, in which she expressed her desire to compete for a championship. The two-time WNBA All-Defensive First Team member also revealed the reason why she joined Indiana, noting that she was “drawn to the team’s commitment to investing in women and providing the best professional atmosphere for success.”
“I am ecstatic to join the Fever organization and compete for a championship,” Turner shared. “… The front office and coaching staff have assembled a dynamic roster that I’m looking forward to learning from and growing with throughout the season.”
While some fans were not happy with Brianna Turner’s signing , especially due to her past comments about Caitlin Clark‘s fans, her addition is largely seen as a huge boost to the Fever.
Indiana’s defense was a big weakness last season, ranking 11th out of 12 teams in defensive rating. By adding Turner, who has career averages of 4.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.8 steals and 1.2 blocks per game, the Fever are making sure they improve in that area.
